Padel, the Senior European Championship is born: all in Spain from 12 to 17 June

In La Nucia they will compete in teams made up of Over 40s and Over 60s. Carraro: “Age is not a limit but an opportunity. Athletes who made history on the field”

Padel is a sport that has no age. And it is to celebrate those who have made the history of this sport, contributing over the years to the expansion of the discipline, that the International Padel Federation has decided to set up a Senior European Championship. Appointment at the Ciudad Deportiva Camilo Cano of La Nucia, a splendid sports complex located in the province of Alicante, in the Comunidad Valenciana.

The Spanish Padel Federation and the local regional federation will organize the first FIP Senior Championship from 12 to 17 June.

THE TOURNAMENT

In the Senior draw, for both men and women, 16 national teams will face each other in the best of three matches, which will see players Over 40, Over 45 and Over 50 respectively on the field; in the Super-Senior draw, also reserved for both men and women, the three age groups provided are Over 50, Over 55 and Over 60. To these two draws for national teams will be added the Open competitions, always reserved for national pairs , also in this case divided by age categories.

THE VOICE OF THE FIP

“Organizing the Senior European Championship makes me particularly proud and happy. A particular happiness – said the president of Fip, Luigi Carraro – because I believe that in sport in general and in padel in particular, talent has no age. The Senior competitions organized by the Fip represent a precious ‘treasure chest’ for every single continental Federation, a moment in which to transform that talent, the experience gained over the years, the technical-tactical baggage into a message to be transmitted to those approaching padel and especially to the new generations who, following the deeds of those who preceded them, will be able to collect their precious legacy. Furthermore, I believe that age in sport should never be a limit, but an opportunity. Extraordinary athletes who have written fundamental pages for our sport will take to the field and being able to admire them in an absolute level competition is, truly, an opportunity not to be missed. This is why I thank the president of the Spanish Federation Ramon Morcillo Valle and the president of the Federation of the Valencian Community Alfonso Monferrer for having accepted with enthusiasm to host these European Championships”.

PRESIDENT

Ramon Morcillo Valle, president of the Spanish padel federation, was also satisfied. “We want to express our satisfaction at having been chosen as the venue for this first European Senior Championship. Our sport, in continuous growth and expansion, allows us to play and compete from a very early age to an advanced age, and this is one of the great successes of padel. That’s why this championship responds to the need of our Seniors to have their European Championship in the same way they have a World Cup. We are certain that the participation will be a success and that the level of the athletes will be up to the great competitions. As far as organization is concerned, we are satisfied with the choice of the Comunidad Valenciana padel federation, which has demonstrated its ability to organize this type of event, as already happened at the 2019 Junior World Cup and the Junior European Championship last October. Spain will participate in this Senior European Championship with its best athletes in this category and we hope to offer a sporting spectacle of the highest level”.
