AC Milan snatched victory in the Supercup final from city rivals Inter Milan after a crazy comeback and won the title for the eighth time.
New coach Sergio Conceicao’s team turned a 0-2 deficit into 3-2 (0-1) on Monday (January 6, 2025) in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh. Tammy Abraham scored the decisive goal in the 90th + 4th minute.
Pulisic equalizes
Previously, Théo Hernández (52′) with a direct free kick and ex-Dortmunder Christian Pulisic (80′) had equalized the Nerazzurri’s lead in the Derby della Madonnina by Lautaro Martínez (45’+1) and Mehdi Taremi (47′). Milan drew level with Inter in terms of titles. The record winner is Juventus Turin with nine successes.
The new AC coach Conceicao, who replaced Paulo Fonseca the day before New Year’s Eve, put former Schalke central defender Malick Thiaw in the starting line-up. The three-time national player was not entirely innocent when he let Taremi slip away in the 2-0 defeat. On Inter’s side, former Cologne defender Yann Aurel Bisseck was on the pitch for the entire season.
In the semi-finals of the Supercoppa, AC defeated record champions Juventus 2-1. Inter reached the final with a 2-0 win against Atalanta Bergamo.
