Pacemaker Derry John Murkin celebrates for two days after Volendam promotion: “Goosebumps”

He was at the front of the stage all evening and was regarded as one of the pacesetters at the promotion party of FC Volendam. Left-back Derry John Murkin still has goosebumps on his arm just thinking about it two days later. “I wasn’t home until early in the morning, when it was already light,” says Murkin about the party.

On the Tasa site, the FC Volendam players received a hero’s welcome after winning the promotion. Away from FC Den Bosch, Volendam won 2-1, which means that it will play in the Eredivisie next season. “I do like a party,” says Murkin in the radio broadcast of NH Sport about the reception in the village. “I had a great time. There were so many people on the site, so late in the evening. I didn’t expect there to be so many. Then you see how much it means for the village.”

“He’s injured, but not Friday night”

The party in the parking lot ended around a quarter to two, but then the players moved to the stadium. There was still a private party with friends, family and sponsors of the club. “We had a great time there,” says Murkin, who is one of the pacesetters in the group. “If you’ve had a few drinks, everyone can dance. But Brian Plat really takes the lead. He is injured, but not Friday night,” laughs Murkin, who was also sidelined for a long time with an injury.

The party in Volendam went on until the wee hours. “I wasn’t home until early in the morning, when it was already light.” The day after, Murkin got up reasonably fresh, because in the morning he was already in Volendam. “We had agreed to watch Jong Volendam and then we went on the dike with quite a few people. We went around some cafes and saw many fans. Actually a second party after it.”

Eredivisie

FC Volendam has two more league matches to play until the end of the season. Away against FC Dordrecht and at home against FC Eindhoven are just formalities, but Murkin hopes to end the season well. “Six points would be nice,” says the left back who will enter the Eredivisie next season with The New Orange† “I can’t wait. It’s not nothing to go to the Arena and De Kuip. We have to see how we are in preparation and then we’ll see how it ends. I think I can handle the level. self-confidence it can’t go very bad either.”
