Ozzy Osbourne is often referred to as the “Godfather of Heavy Metal.” It’s all the more surprising that he actually doesn’t like this classification at all – the former Black Sabbath frontman recently explained this in an interview with “Spin.com“.
“I’ve never felt comfortable with this title that was given to me – ‘metal’. Because Ozzy Osbourne is playing heavybut the bands that [als Metal] are really heavy and we are all put in the same category,” he said.
Ozzy Osbourne: rock music, not metal!
Osbourne continued: “When you’re put in a certain box, it can be very difficult to do something lighter or an acoustic track or whatever you want to do. Before it was always just rock music. It’s still just rock music.”
In the same interview, the singer also discussed the success of his latest album, 2022’s Patient Number 9, for which he won two Grammy Awards. “I have had one of the most amazing careers an artist can ever have. I mean, I started in 1968 and have been working on it ever since. It was just fantastic. I get awards galore, but I don’t know what to do with them. I’m not very good at accepting awards. I didn’t start it [Preise zu bekommen]. I think I’ve been for four or five this year [Grammys] nominated and won two. At the end of the day, it’s a nice little touch, I suppose. “It’s something I can leave to my children,” Osbourne says.
