Özil makes debut for new club Basaksehir

Former national soccer player Mesut Özil has played his first competitive game in five months.

The 2014 world champion came on as a substitute in the 80th minute for former HSV professional Berkay Özcan in his new club Basaksehir Istanbul’s 2-0 (1-0) home win against Kayserispor.

“It feels so good to finally be back on the pitch,” Özil wrote on Twitter. He played his last game on March 20 for his then club Fenerbahce before being suspended there.

Basaksehir has seven points after three match days and initially took the lead in the table.
