Fenerbahce sees itself in the tradition of Atatürk, the founder of the state: secular, layistic, cosmopolitan. Basaksehir is led by AKP people, plays in the colors of the AKP, is sponsored by Erdogan, and stands for values such as religious, conservative, nationalist. In short: Basaksehir is pretty much the exact opposite of Fenerbahce.
What do the users who are familiar with Turkish football say about this?
So far I thought it would be like this:
Galatasaray – Founded by Nobility, “Largest Turkish Club”
Fenerbaçe – Founded by the nationalist bourgeoisie, arch-rival of Galatasaray
Besiktas – Founded by the working class, left wing
Basaksehir – no fans at all founded by some corporations, Erdogan’s heart
Somehow that always interested me, maybe someone can explain it. I’m well aware that all clubs now have mixed fans. But it is still very interesting how many top clubs this city has, there are still many more.
