Kyiv / WARSAW (dpa-AFX) – Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir (Greens) welcomes a Ukrainian-Polish project for an edible oil pipeline between the two countries. “The export issue is and will remain Ukraine’s most pressing economic concern,” said the 56-year-old on Friday. He expressly supports the expansion of permanent transport routes away from the Black Sea in order to secure Ukraine’s access to world markets.
As reported by the Polish news agency PAP, Poland and Ukraine are considering building the pipeline from Ukraine to Gdańsk. A preliminary contract on the possible construction of a pipeline was signed on the Ukrainian initiative.
In the course of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the Ukrainian Black Sea ports were blocked. Above all, the export of grain was severely restricted, which was reflected in rising food prices, which hit many poorer countries. In Germany, there were delivery problems with sunflower and rapeseed oil, for example. Ukraine is an important oil seed producing country./mjm/DP/ngu
