The bomb has exploded: Özcan Akyol no longer wants to participate in Today Inside because of howler movie gate. He canceled his appearance on the Thursday show. “He lets it go.”
It seems that a breach of trust has occurred between Özcan Akyol and the men of Today Inside because of the ongoing row about the knife in the back of Matthijs van Nieuwkerk. Eus suggested everywhere that a video would circulate in which the fallen DWDD star behaved horribly, but that turned out to be an extreme exaggeration.
Slander Matthijs
Matthijs’ conscious ‘howler’ film was in reality so mild that it does not even come close to transgressive behaviour. According to Jan Slagter, one of Eus’ employers, he was misled by his presenter. “Eus then made it seem to me as if it was a very serious video.”
And with that statement from Jan, the net closes around Eus. He can no longer hide behind media that would have inflated his statements, because he also slandered his former best TV friend Matthijs in a private conversation with the boss of Omroep MAX. Johan Derksen finds it almost impossible to take Eus seriously anymore.
Not to VI anymore
Why are the VI guys so annoyed? What plays a role is that Eus told different versions of the story backstage to Wilfred Genee and René van der Gijp. The version he told to Gijp turned out to be incorrect, but the VI star defended him on national television based on that. He later appeared to feel embarrassed.
The bomb has now exploded. “Yes, Eus… Is he coming this week or not?” asks Albert Verlinde in the Today Inside from last night.
Wilfred then: “Mmmm, no.”
Eus cancels
Actually, Özcan was supposed to be at the table in the Thursday show. Johan confirms: “It doesn’t look like it, Albert.”
Albert: “No, not? Doesn’t he find that difficult?
Johan: “That’s news.”
Albert: “Okay, does he find it difficult?”
Wilfred: “He has indicated that he is letting it go for now, yes.”
Sam Hagens: “Why?”
Wilfred: “Because he is starting to find having to repeat what he has said a bit tiring.”
Big ego
Johan then portrays Eus as an ego tripper. “The problem is of course, Albert: Eus is a very good guest for us and also a good guy. Only Eus is so vain and has such a big ego, he has trapped himself with that video that does not exist and then at some point you have to say something.”
What then? “Well, like: ‘Sorry people, I’ve been talking out of my mind, it’s something else.’ Then you’re rid of everything. And he can’t afford that. He denies it here, but not with clear arguments and then it continues to simmer. Yes, he made two mistakes: he got stuck and he let his best friend fall.”
Not tasty
Betraying a friend doesn’t sit well with Gijp either. “Yes, that is of course not nice at all.”
Johan: “Then it’s not a good time for you.”
Albert: “What should Eus do now? At some point he must be sitting here saying, ‘Guys, that’s so stupid.’”
Johan: “He has to put on the sackcloth, be realistic and say: ‘Guys, I’ve got myself stuck, I can’t get out anymore.’”
René: “Because it concerns his friend, it makes it extra painful, of course, right? That’s painful, man.”
Albert: “And no one was expecting it. He didn’t have to say anything about it. He did that of his own accord and that is not chic.”
Eus isn’t looking
It seems that Eus is really a bit pissed off at the guys from VI, because he made it very clear late last night that he had not watched their talk show. At 10:30 p.m., right at the end of the VI broadcast, he just tweeted that he had watched something completely different.
Özcan: “Just watched three episodes of The Jewish Council (EO). Truly a beautiful, painful and important series. Definitely recommended. Certainly for anyone who could use a dose of historical awareness.”
In other words: Eus briefly emphasizes that he skipped his dose of VI. Will we ever see him at the table again? Time will tell, but in the meantime, movie-gate continues to simmer…
