Özcan Akyol may freelance for the same channel as Evert Santegoeds and Guido den Aantrekker, but that does not mean that he spares the two gossip bobos. “Dredge blades!”
Private boss Evert Santegoeds and Story boss Guido den Aantrekker get a lot of mud all over them. While Jan Dijkgraaf, the biographer of the Meilandjes, accuses them of raping Maxime Meiland, Özcan Akyol now calls out that their magazines are ‘garbage magazines’ and that they have themselves to blame for the rise of juice channels.
Dredge blades
Özcan thinks that Evert and Guido – all three of whom can be seen regularly on SBS 6 – have caused a revolution in the show media with their cronyism: the new, more independent juice channels appear to be much more ruthless and usually contain more scoops.
The presenter of Stars on the Canvas explains in the VARA guide: “In practice, we saw in the media world that traditional trash magazines such as Weekend, Party, Privé and Story were overtaken by vloggers and popular websites with above-average attention to the antics of famous Dutch people.”
In the ass
Evert and Guido not only make a mess, but are also deeply involved with stars such as Connie Witteman and Rachel Hazes, Özcan continues. “The industry got a boost from these new parties, simply because the dated magazines, to put it bluntly, were up the arse of our showbiz stars – and thus limited messaging.”
So the emergence of juice channels as competitors is their own fault, he says. “There has now been lawlessness. Everyone just throws everything on the internet and that is why there are digital tabloids in the Netherlands.”
