Özcan Akyol has invited Princess Beatrix in a physical one-on-one conversation to participate in Stars on the Canvas. “Well, that wasn’t allowed at all. Everyone angry!”
So many celebrities have already been guests in the Sterren op het Doek program that it is becoming increasingly difficult to attract guests. Recently there was even an actress who was not recognized by any artist. In an attempt to raise the level a bit, presenter Özcan Akyol tried to get Princess Beatrix.
‘Hello Beatrice’
Özcan met the princess in person. “Can I actually say this? I was somewhere – I won’t name the organization – and Beatrix was the patroness. There is a kind of major there, a man in a suit, and he says: ‘Yes, Beatrix wants to speak to you, separately.’ You are not allowed to ask questions and only give answers,” he says Today Inside.
And then? “I say, ‘Okay.’ I had to wait separately in a cage, in a small room and then she indeed came, Beatrix, and then she looked at me and said: ‘I think your programs are very nice and you do a lot for art and literature. Please keep it up.’ There was an entourage of thirty people around it.”
On the canvas
Then Özcan made an attempt. “I said: ‘Maybe you would like to be in Stars on the Canvas?’ Well, that wasn’t allowed at all. You weren’t allowed to ask that, so those people looked a bit angry. She said, ‘Yes, no, you’re doing really well,’ and then she walked away.”
Ridiculous, he thinks. “I thought: yeah, what kind of charade is this?”
