Özcan Akyol is not impressed by the criticism that Dilan Yesilgöz and Caroline van der Plas have expressed about his condescending statements about boas. “I really feel bad about it.”
The statements that Özcan Akyol made at the Today Inside talk show table about boas were a bombshell. The presenter lives on the central square of Deventer and says he often sees people being harassed by boas. He was approached eight times last week, he says Radio 538.
Wink
Özcan still stands behind his statements. “Well, it’s a real opinion delivered with a wink. That’s also possible, I think. (…) Some have completed a full-fledged MBO education, others are taking a course. I don’t know what your experiences are with the boas, but you see that that level is also visible on the street.”
Don’t these people have a thorough education? “That is not true. I would say: now grab your laptop and google BOA courses and you can see that in four to six months you have already completed basic training and then you still have different levels, so that is simply not correct.”
Skipping
Does Özcan have anything against people who are boas? “No, but I also said that on the broadcast: I am not against the human boa, but against the profession. Train those boas to become fully-fledged officers or at least give them full training at a boa academy or something, but don’t compromise in between.”
538 sidekick Niels van Baarlen: “Then you should have said in the broadcast that the problem lies with the government and the police should train them differently and not portray the boa as a dumbass in the VI broadcast.”
Özcan: “That was also said in the broadcast, only then one snippet was cut out.”
Screw it
What does Özcan think about the fact that even politicians are now interfering? Caroline van der Plas and Dilan Yesilgöz are very critical. “I don’t mind all those opinions about what I said. You know what I think is the worst? That politicians are now going to give their opinion about what I say at a talk show table.”
Caroline thinks that Özcan does not understand what boas exactly are and Dilan says: “All those thousands of people consciously choose them and stand for our safety. What matters to me is the respect for all those people who work day and night for our freedom and safety and not that we look down on them from a distance.”
Hungary and Poland
What are they getting involved in, Özcan wonders. “I mean: we talk about Hungary and Poland that they are scary countries, but I don’t think politicians should interfere with what happens in a pub, like a regular table. That is a strange development.”
