Özcan Akyol’s hairstyle sometimes looks a bit blacker than other times, but he denies dying his hair black. “That is my real color,” says the 39-year-old presenter.
Almost all TV stars pay an above-average amount of attention to their appearance, because there is a camera on their nose all the time. For example, Wilfred Genee makes no secret of the fact that he regularly has his hair dyed. But what about his regular table guest Özcan Akyol? Does he also have his hair treated?
Dazzling
Sometimes it seems like Özcan produces more gray blades than other times. A reader of his letters column in the VARA guide, a Mr Wout from Schiedam, seems to think the same. “Maybe you can explain to me why so many presenters, reporters and analysts dye their hair dazzling black?”
This gentleman continues: “Is this an order from the program makers? It just hurts your eyes sometimes, it looks like black and white TV. If you don’t want to answer this question, I understand, it’s not that bad. Maybe I’m a black-eyed person, but still.”
‘My real color’
In other words: Özcan is harshly accused of coloring his hair. “If I’m not mistaken, you’re trying to make fun of me because you think I dye my hair. Unfortunately I have to disappoint you. That’s my real color. For the television, only oil and spray are injected, which makes it shine more.”
He continues: “In daily life I don’t put anything in my hair. In addition, you say that many presenters dye their hair black, but you may not have noticed that ninety percent of the public broadcaster’s workforce is blonde. Better luck next time, old man.”
