Owner OGC Nice and Ineos bid on Chelsea, Pagliuca drops out | Football

“This is a British bid for a British club,” Ineos said in a statement. “We believe that London should have a club that reflects the image of the city. Just like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich. We want Chelsea to be that club in London. We are making this investment as fans of this wonderful sport and not as a way to make a profit. We do that with our core activities and not with football.”

Shortly after Ineos’ statement, news agency Reuters that the consortium led by Todd Boehly, co-owner of the LA Dodgers, is in exclusive negotiations to buy Chelsea for £3 billion. American investor Steve Pagliuca was also interested in Chelsea, but he dropped out on Friday.

Abramovich

Chelsea was put up for sale by owner Roman Abramovich in March after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Russian is on a British government sanctions list because he is said to have close ties to President Vladimir Putin. Chelsea therefore has to deal with all kinds of restrictions.
