Owner of former hotel and municipality of Emmen: ‘No asylum reception in Schoonebeek’

No asylum seekers are accommodated in the former hotel-restaurant De Wolfshoeve in Schoonebeek. Alderman René van der Weide of the municipality of Emmen and new owner Jorgen Kruijt confirm this.

Earlier this week there was unrest in the oil village about possible reception of status holders. Owner Jorgen Kruit (Saxum & Firmum) confirmed on Monday that he had been approached by a foundation to accommodate 45 people and was considering it.

No cooperation

The municipality of Emmen immediately announced that it did not find a good plan and that it would not cooperate in providing shelter in Schoonebeek.

A conversation took place on Thursday morning between owner Kruit and housing councilor René van der Weide. The final conclusion of that agreement is that the request for asylum reception is rejected.

The former hotel De Wolfshoeve, in recent years De Witte Olifant, is now being demolished and apartments are being built on the historic land.
