The production company IFC Films has released a first trailer for the film “Paint” based on the US painter Bob Ross. In the comedy by Brit McAdams, Owen Wilson embodies the Vermont painter “Carl Nagyl”, who also has a painting show and Bob Ross’ appearance, especially his distinctive hairstyle. The film is scheduled for April 7th in US theaters.
Ross hosted the popular TV show The Joy of Painting from 1983 to 1994, where he showcased his painting technique before passing away in 1995 at the age of 52. He was primarily known for his landscape paintings. Some of the later episodes of his series are still being broadcast, including in Germany.
Filming has been completed since summer 2021. Wendi McLendon-Covey, Stephen Root and Michaela Watkins, among others, play alongside the main actor Owen Wilson. It’s not the only film starring him that’s slated for release this year. Wilson stars alongside Jared Leto and Jamie Lee Curtis in the horror comedy Haunted Mansion, which is due out in August.
