Owen Wijndal leaves for Greece with AZ, despite ‘agreement with Ajax’

The transfer of Steven Bergwijn was confirmed by Ajax today, but that of Owen Wijndal is still a while away. There was already talk last week about an agreement between the team from Amsterdam and AZ. That doesn’t seem to be the case yet, so Wijndal ‘just’ boarded a plane to Greece this afternoon.

There is a five-year contract for 22-year-old Wijndal ready in Amsterdam. He is said to be allowed to leave Alkmaar for ten million euros. Trainer Pascal Jansen previously reported that the left back will remain part of the selection, as long as there is no white smoke.

Wijndal is smiling broadly in a photo shared by AZ on Twitter. The Alkmaarders practice against Olympiakos Piraeus on Saturday. Kick-off is at 7:30 PM. AZ announced the selection that will go to Greece on Friday afternoon, remarkably enough, Jesper Karlsson was missing. He’s not fit.
