The transfer from AZ captain Owen Wijndal to Ajax is complete. The clubs recently reached an agreement on the transfer fee. In Amsterdam, 22-year-old Wijndal signs a five-year contract that binds him to the reigning national champion until the summer of 2027.
Last season Wijndal extended his contract at AZ until the summer of 2025. It was agreed that the eleven-time international could leave for a limited transfer fee of 10 million euros. Wijndal is Ajax’s second major purchase this summer. Last week was also the arrival by Steven Bergwijn confirmed.
Wijndal may be able to make his unofficial debut for Ajax on Friday. Then there is an exhibition game at De Toekomst with the Belgian KAS Eupen. In that match, many Ajax internationals will make their appearance for the first time in this preparation.

Wijndal did not play a single practice match for AZ in preparation for the new season, because the clubs had already made agreements about this. “There is a lot going on behind the scenes,” said trainer Pascal Jansen.
Wijndal made his debut for AZ in 2017 in the 2-4 loss against PSV. Since then, the left wing defender has played a total of 142 games in the first team of the Alkmaar club and has scored 4 times. Last season, Wijndal captained the team of coach Pascal Jansen.
