The CD&V’er legde in October 2019 de eed af as minister van Welzijn, Volksgezondheid, Gezin en Armoedebestrijding in de Vlaamse regering. Beke stoned daarvoor zijn zitje af as minister of work and economy in de federale regering.
Twee maanden na zijn aanstelling as Vlaamse minister zat het Beke al tegen.
