After the number of new infections with the coronavirus had risen slightly for the first time in weeks earlier this week, the average number of daily hospital admissions is now also increasing slightly. This is evident from figures from health institute Sciensano on Friday morning.
Between June 1 and June 7, daily averages 1,357 new corona infections established, an increase of 3 percent compared to the previous period.
If we do the daily figures If we look at it, we see that, except for Whit Monday, an increase in the number of infections has been registered every day of the week compared to the same day a week earlier.
Virologist Steven Van Gucht said earlier this week that he is not too worried about the rising numbers. According to the professor, we have now built up a better immunity through the vaccinations and through one or more previous infections. “That makes the risk of complications and hospitalization for most people much smaller than a few months or a year ago. Not for everyone, but for most people an infection is quite mild.”
Also the number corona tests that was taken has decreased slightly, to an average of 10,090 tests per day (-3 percent).
The positivity ratio amounts to 15.3 percent (+1.2 percent).
The R-value, the measure of the spread of the coronavirus, is also rising above ‘1’ again, meaning the pandemic is gaining momentum. It reproduction figure of the virus is now at 1.03 (+23 percent).
In the period between 3 and 9 June, an average of 55 people were hospitalized every day because of a corona infection, an increase of 6 percent compared to the previous period.
There are currently 890 corona patients in hospital, which is 1 percent more than the same day a week earlier. There are 71 patients in intensive care, a decrease of still -7 percent.
