Overtoom praises top scorer Plet: “He was nervous”

Telstar lost 3-2 at home against Jong Ajax tonight, but afterwards there was still a small party for Glynor Plet. Thanks to his two goals, the striker is now at 87 goals and is equal to Sander Oostrom as Telstar’s all-time top scorer. “Very handsome and well deserved”, said teammate Tom Overtoom afterwards.

Plet came on after 67 minutes and immediately did what his teammates couldn’t: score. “We’ve had enough chances. Especially the first half. But that’s football law. If you don’t make them yourself, they’ll fall on the other side,” said Tom Overtoom about the match.

“If you want to make the playoffs, you have to reward yourself”

“As long as you create opportunities, I don’t think you should get discouraged,” Overtoom continues. “We really want to get something this season. And if you want to reach the play-offs, then you have to reward yourself. And then you have to finish the chances.”

Telstar coach Mike Snoei agreed with Overtoom’s analysis that his team had sold itself short. “We have to print and get the opponent on their knees. That ball from Giousis on the post has to go in. David Min, Boussakou, Rein Smit. All had chances, but they don’t miss them on purpose,” said Snoei.
