Overcingel tunnel in Assen closed due to loose facade plates

The Overcingel tunnel in Assen, which runs in front of the station, was closed this afternoon just before rush hour. The reason for the closure is loose facade panels on the edge of the tunnel. They have been removed as a precaution, because otherwise they could fall on cars. Traffic is diverted.

The builder of the tunnel, construction company BAM, discovered the problem during the weekly inspection. An employee noticed one of the black marble facade panels was loose. After a closer inspection, it soon turned out that two plates were not properly secured. They were immediately removed.

These are so-called edge elements, at the head of the Overcingeltunnel. The loose plates were discovered on the north side of the tunnel.
