One of the greatest careers in football is coming to an end: Sergio Busquets has announced his resignation. The defensive midfielder of Inter Miami hangs up his shoes after the end of his contract on December 31, 2025. For the 722 games for FC Barcelona, 143 for the Spanish national team and 105 for Inter Miami, at least six more will be added – depending on how far you get in the playoffs. At the age of 37, Busquets was a regular player and collected eight templates in 28 mls games.
“I thank FC Barcelona, the club of my life. There I fulfilled my childhood dream and the jersey that I love was worn hundreds of times,” said Busquets. Busquets played most frequently alongside Lionel Messi, with which he was 639 times in the field. This is followed by Gerard Piqué (605 games), Jordi Alba (565), Andrés Iniesta (565) and Marc-André Ter Stegen (329). The 1.89 meter tall six shaped a generation – a transfer was never paid for him, because he only played for FC Barcelona, which he left as a legend in 2023 and has been kicking for Inter Miami since then. Busquets had its highest market value in 2018 with 80 million euros.
