Shortly before the IFA in Berlin, AVM gave a first look at the Fritz!OS 7.50. The new firmware for the Fritzbox and other devices from the manufacturer brings extensive innovations, some of which have already been tested in advance.
With Fritz!OS 7.50, the next major firmware version for the Fritz boxes will be available this late summer. AVM announces a total of over 100 innovations for its devices. The update is free of charge and will start in a few weeks for the first products. By default, AVM first supplies its flagship routers such as the Fritzbox 7590 and gradually distributes the firmware to older models as well as its repeaters, WLAN adapters and telephones.
Fritz!OS 7.50 with numerous innovations in different categories
In the weeks before the official release of Fritz!OS 7.50, AVM tested the most important functions as part of laboratory updates. The finished firmware includes numerous innovations and improvements in a wide variety of areas such as smart home, telephony and Internet, WLAN mesh and home networking.
With Fritz!OS 7.50, AVM improves the setup of VPN connections and increases the stability of Mesh WiFi. In addition, according to the manufacturer, smart home users have even more options for setting routines. For example, the Fritz!OS 7.50 introduces the if-then link, which automatically starts previously defined events as soon as the relevant condition is met. For example, when the sun goes down, the smart socket Fritz!DECT 200 automatically switches on the light.
In addition, users can be notified by a light effect or a message or phone call if the window is suddenly open or the air in the room is getting worse.
Scenarios such as “Coming home” can also be defined, including suitable events. At the appropriate time, for example, the thermostat starts heating, lamps switch on and the answering machine is deactivated.
In order to make all these settings, the Fritz!OS 7.50 brings new menu items to the interface. The items “Automation” and “Operation” can then be found under Smart Home.
New moving service is coming
According to TECHBOOK demand, a relocation service should also be new in Fritz!OS 7.50. It is already possible to save the Fritzbox settings and transfer them to another box. Until now, however, connected devices such as DECT telephones and thermostats had to be installed manually on the new router. This should change with the new service, which then also takes over these settings and thus significantly simplifies the router change. The feature is currently still in the works, but should be ready when the firmware is released, according to AVM.
In addition, owners of a Fritz!Fon will receive the new “voice ringing” function with the update. Here, the DECT telephone announces the caller’s name for incoming calls (if available in the telephone book) or states the place from which the call is coming. Alternatively, users can also select an announcement text for alarm clocks and appointments, including the reminder function.

Fritz!OS 7.50 is slightly delayed
Many expected that Fritz!OS 7.50 would be ready for IFA 2022. That’s not the case. Work on the firmware is ongoing in order to be able to really guarantee smooth operation. When asked when the new Fritz!OS will be available, AVM only gave us the information “in the course of the coming weeks”.
