Borussia Dortmund is currently on a high. On Tuesday, BVB can move into the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke is extremely satisfied with the work of head coach Edin Terzic.
“Edin Terzic and his team are doing an excellent job,” said the 63-year-old in an interview with “Ruhr Nachrichten” and noted: “By the way, I said that back in November when it looked sporty. I’m glad that my opinion is now reflected in the results.”
At the beginning of the year, BVB was still nine points behind FC Bayern in the Bundesliga. The two permanent rivals are now tied. Munich only ranks ahead of the black and yellow because of the better goal difference.
BVB wants to throw Chelsea out
Things are also going well for BVB in the Champions League. The round of 16 first leg against Chelsea was won 1-0. On Tuesday (9 p.m.) there will be a second meeting at Stamford Bridge.
“The fact that we have the feeling before the second leg in London that we can get through says everything to me,” said Watzke, who was satisfied with the development.
At the same time, the BVB boss warned: “Nobody should believe that tenth place in the Premier League reflects the sporting quality of Chelsea. The knot can burst at any time, after all they have spent more than 600 million euros in transfers in eight months.”
Hans-Joachim Watzke trusts the BVB team
Nevertheless, he has “great confidence that the team will tear itself apart to reach the quarter-finals,” said Watzke confidently.
Should Borussia Dortmund get at least one draw in London, BVB would be among the top eight clubs. So Terzic and Co. would still have the chance to win all titles.
