The Dutchman Tim van Rijthoven surprisingly won his first title on the ATP tour at the lawn tournament in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
In the final on Sunday, the world number 205 beat. the Russians Daniil Medvedev 6:4, 6:1. Van Rijthoven (25) started with a wild card in his home country. Before that, he hadn’t won a single match at the top level of the pro tour.
Medvedev (26), the new leader in the ATP ranking from Monday, is still waiting for his first tournament win this season. In the coming week he will be at the start in Halle/Westphalia, after which he will be given an involuntary break due to the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian professionals in Wimbledon (from June 27th).
In the women’s final in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Medvedev’s compatriot Yekaterina Alexandrova beat Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) 7-5, 6-0. Both players are not allowed to compete in Wimbledon.
