Out of the EuroCup: Hamburg Towers lose in Valencia

Basketball Bundesliga team Hamburg Towers was eliminated from the EuroCup in the round of 16. The North Germans lost 80-98 (41-48) to Spanish top club Valencia Basket.

This marks the end of the Towers’ first participation in the club’s history in a European competition. In the preliminary round, the Hamburg team took 7th place in Group A of nine participating teams.

The Hanseatic League started very boldly against the four-time EuroCup winner and was already leading 9:2 after three minutes. At the end of the first period, the Hanseatic League was 22:19 ahead.

From the second quarter, however, the quality of the Spaniards, who had finished the group stage in second place, showed. Above all, the many rebounds from Valencia made the game difficult for Hamburg, so that the Spanish hosts went into the break with a seven-point lead.

The experienced squad from Spain also played almost flawlessly after half-time and continuously increased their lead. The third period ended with an interim score of 73:58 for Valencia, so that their entry into the quarter-finals was no longer in danger.
