When it’s not fun to see each other again: The German volleyball players played against Slovenia a second time at the World Cup – and were eliminated.

The team of national coach Michael Winiarski lost on Saturday (September 3rd, 2022) to hosts and runners-up Slovenia with 1: 3 (18:25, 19:25, 25:21, 22:25). The best German attacker was Linus Weber with 17 points.

The selection of the German Volleyball Association (DDV) had participated in a World Cup for the first time since the sensational third place in 2014.

A reunion that brings no joy

Previously, Germany had only reached the round of 16 with Schützenhilfe. In their group final, the Germans had no chance against the co-hosts of the finals at 0:3.

This time Winiarski’s team at least showed the hoped-for increase in performance. But the own error rate was too high against the attacking Slovenians.
