The world number 74. Oscar Otte from Cologne lost 6:7 (9:11), 1:6 against the Frenchman Gael Monfils. The 35-year-old former top ten player prevailed against the Cologne player after a good one and a half hours of play.
Zverev now against McDonald
This makes Alexander Zverev the last German participant in Florida. The third in the world rankings previously won 6: 4, 3: 6, 6: 3 against Croatian Borna Coric. The next opponent for the Olympic champion from Hamburg is the American Mackenzie McDonald, whom he recently defeated at the tournament in Montpellier.
Barty no longer in the rankings at his own request
In the women’s category, Poland’s Iga Swiatek won the second round 6-2, 6-0 against Viktorija Golubic from Switzerland, making her the new number one in the world rankings after the tournament from April 4th. The previous Australian Ashleigh Barty surprisingly retired this week and her name will no longer appear in the rankings at her request.
So Swiatek moves up. “I never really expected that to happen, which makes it even more surreal for me,” said the 20-year-old, who had advanced to the top of the world in 2020 by surprisingly winning the French Open.
