Our war journalist Robin Ramaekers after bombing in Mykolaiv: “One of the heaviest blows to the Ukrainian army so far” | War Ukraine and Russia

“It is really unbelievable what we find here”, says Ramaekers. “Yesterday there were rocket attacks on this military base that was full of sleeping soldiers. There is no official confirmation, but we have heard from soldiers here and from the morgue in the city that more than 80 dead have been recovered. The fire service is still searching for more bodies.” Ramaekers says that bodies are still visible under the rubble.

Up to 150 soldiers could stay overnight in the complex, which served as a training site before soldiers were sent to the front. “There is a good chance that dozens of soldiers will be rescued from under the rubble,” said the war journalist. The local fire brigade has been searching for more bodies since yesterday morning. Survivors have not yet been found.

“Everywhere we look, there are still body parts. It’s a terrible situation, and no one can tell us exactly how many people are involved,” Ramaekers said.
