OUR OPINION. “The maze of bicycle markings costs human lives”

The maze of stripes and markings that indicate where cyclists can cross is costing lives. Thursday again. A 19-year-old cyclist died after crossing a paved road and was hit by a truck. The teenager did so in a place that looks like a pedestrian crossing for cyclists. Only: it isn’t. You have no priority. For example, there are at least four different bicycle markings in Flanders. You would be mistaken for less. Every day that governments wait to tackle that chaos could cost lives.
