I’ve been a journalist for over 20 years, but never before have I had to write about a 12-year-old stabbing a cop with a knife. Everything about the story is shocking. The age of the perpetrator. The lack of respect for the police. But also how the boy almost nonchalantly – you can see in the video images without hesitation. School boards warned earlier how a knife at school is just as natural for some young people as a lunch box in your book bag. It is high time to take those signals seriously, before the next incident takes an even more dramatic course.
