It is a story that is doing the rounds in the Wetstraat. When after the sixth state reform care for the elderly became a Flemish competence, ex-minister of Welfare Wouter Beke (CD&V) warned in the wings about the pitiful condition of the residential care centers. He knew what Flanders inherited. But are we doing better? Unfortunately… Murders in the rest home of Oostrozebeke exposed laxity in that rest home, nonchalance at the inspection and ignorance on the part of the government. In short: a broader failure.
