Oudenburg wants to expand the Plassendale lock complex for tourists

To this end, it wants to change the spatial implementation plan in collaboration with Ostend, because the site is an agricultural area. There will be no marina in any case, but there could be new catering establishments. First, the current residents are questioned.

In the course of the 17th century, the Ghent-Oostende and Oudenburg-Nieuwpoort canals were dug. The connection of those two canals took place in the Plassendale district. Because of different sea currents, two locks were built, one of which was later moved to the Slijkens district, closer to Ostend. The whole is located in the vicinity of the nature reserve ‘De Zwaanhoek’ and is a busy junction of cycling routes. You can also fish along the canals. And pleasure boats can moor there.
