Oudenburg is looking for shelter for Ukrainian refugees after fire

The Bikershotel must first be thoroughly cleaned. It may take until next weekend before electricity is available again. Romina Vanhooren, Alderman for Welfare Oudenburg: “Unfortunately, on Saturday evening we had a short circuit in the fuse box. We intervened immediately. The fire brigade arrived on the scene. No injuries were reported and all belongings were freed.”

The site is now temporarily unusable due to the extinguishing works and the electricity needs to be restored. The 32 people are taken care of in a local service center and with host families. 16 people stay in a hotel in Roksem. “It is still unclear how many days it will take. We are switching as quickly as possible at the moment. We are also in contact with Bredene. They also have group shelters. We are now looking at whether they can go there temporarily.”

It is currently a bit of a mess. A Ukrainian mother with two children now lives temporarily at home with the ships. Refugees are also staying temporarily at Mayor Anthony Dumarey’s home and with municipal officials.
