Otto presents a circular collection that uses recyclable textiles.
The first collection from the Hamburg mail order company includes pieces from the Otto Products and Lascana brands, Otto announced on Wednesday. These include hoodies, dresses and men’s jeans.
“Circular clothing is a good approach to reducing textile waste, which has been increasing for years,” says Lisa Franke, project manager from the Otto sustainability team. “However, fashion can only be truly recyclable if it is planned that way from the very first draft.”
Circularity is to be made possible with more sustainable fabrics such as organic cotton and lyocell, as well as wood used for buttons. Integrated digital product passports – sewn NFC tags – provide information about the material, production and the return channel, which allows used textile sorting companies to identify and recycle the pieces.
