LThe news is official: the degree course in osteopathy has been approved by the Ministry of Health together with the Ministry of University. A fundamental recognition which, as stated by Roi, the Register of Osteopaths in Italy, it will offer both young people and researchers many new opportunities. The recognition of a true path for this profession has been hindered over the years not only by changes in government but also by a certain skeptical attitude on the part of other healthcare professions.

Osteopathy, the degree course is coming to Italy

After Denmark, France, Great Britain, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey. In particular, in Denmark, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Switzerland, where it has already been previously regulated, now it is also Italy’s turn. With the publication in the Official Journal on 16 February, osteopathy is officially recognized as a healthcare profession. Not an easy recognition to obtain, it took about six yearsand which now has the approval of the Ministry of Health and that of the University.

The osteopath therefore becomes “a healthcare professional who prevents and maintains health through osteopathic treatment of somatic dysfunctions not attributable to pathologies in the musculoskeletal system”, as stated in the Gazzetta. Therefore, private schools, which until now have offered training at an international level and recognized by the WHO, will join forces full degree courses. «Osteopathy will enrich the panorama of health professions with its specific approach, finally among the possible choices of Italian students» intervenes Paola Sciomachen, President of the ROI – Register of Osteopaths in Italy. A new degree path that it will also relaunch scientific research, specifically in the osteopathic fieldcontinues the President.

Another branch of osteopathy that is fundamental to women’s lives, and perhaps little known, isgynecological osteopathy.
