Ostend residents help decide on new location ‘Dikke Mathille’
It is not yet clear whether it will then be moved to the Kursaal itself, which is the original location. Many residents would not like to see the statue moved.
Residents make decisions
“We decided with the council of aldermen last week to formally start the procedure to move her,” says alderman Björn Anseeuw.
“That means that we have officially decided that we want to move her, but that does not mean that we are allowed to move her yet. It is the start of the procedure. The next step in the procedure is that the Immovable Heritage Agency will send a note to the minister who will have his say about this. Then it will come back to the city in a number of subsequent steps and at that time there will also be a say.”
