Ostend police gives old PCs new life
The Ostend Police Department regularly renews its computers. This is necessary so that the hardware can keep up with the rapidly changing software applications. In addition, the computers have been written off for accounting purposes, but the devices still work perfectly and have been checked by the IT department.
A push in the back
The ‘old’ computers are therefore given a second life. The police donate them to various local schools and organizations: “We would rather give the computers a new social meaning than just dispose of them.” A conscious choice, explains Chief of Police Philip caestecker from: “Unfortunately, we notice that some children have poor or even no access to the digital world. We want to make a difference with this donation.”
This concerns 110 computers with accompanying screen, keyboard and mouse. The donation will go directly to six schools and healthcare institutions. It’s about Go! De Morotjes primary school in Ostend, Holy Family Free Primary School in Oudenburg, CDO Scholengroep aan Zee, vzw ‘t Veldzicht in Bruges, the Zeelyceum and Aan Zee primary school in De Haan and Digital For Youth. The latter is specifically committed to reducing the digital divide in our country for children and young people between the ages of 6 and 25.
