Ostend advises against swimming in part of the bathing areas in the sea due to the dirty water flow

After the tropical temperatures of the past few days, the coast received some heavy rain showers on Tuesday afternoon and evening. “The heavy rainfall activated the overflows, causing a waste water flow to end up in the canal. The waste water flow then drifted towards the sea and some popular bathing areas in Ostend,” says the city.

As a result, the quality of the bathing water in the Noodstrand-Christinastraat and Koninginnelaan zone is not good enough for swimming. The Agency for Care and Health and the Flemish Environment Agency advise against swimming in those zones.

The warning mainly applies to children, the elderly and people with a low resistance
