Before the Academy announced the five nominees in the respective Oscar categories on January 24, the shortlists were first made public yesterday (December 21). There are currently 15 contenders in the various categories in the race for the most famous trophy in the world – including in the “Best Original Song” category. Since 1934, it has honored the songwriters of songs that were written specifically for a film.
The illustrious list of last year’s winners
This year, for example, Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell succeeded. They had contributed the song title of the same name for the last part of the James Bond series “No Time to Die”. Other previous year’s winners included HER (for “Fight for You” in “Judas and the Black Messiah”), Elton John (for “I’m Gonna Love Me Again” in “Rocketman”) and Lady Gaga (for “Shallow” in “A Star Is Born”). The latter can now make another chance for the nearly four-kilogram golden knight. Alongside her, the shortlist includes Rihanna, The Weeknd, Taylor Swift and LCD Soundsystem.
