Oscars 2023: Group photo of the nominees

The Academy hosted the traditional Oscar nominees reception on Monday February 13th. The event is the prelude to various programs that will take place before the award ceremony on March 12th.

Our Oscar prediction:

The almost 200 nominees posed together for a group photo. These include previous award winners such as Steven Spielberg (now nominated for “The Fabelmans”), Roger Deakins (“Empire of Light”) and Tom Cruise (“Top Gun: Maverick”), as well as first-time nominees such as Brandon Fraser and Hong Chau for “The Whale”, Austin Butler for “Elvis” and Paul Mescal for “Aftersun”.

The film Everything Everyone All at Once, which has eleven awards this year, was represented by Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu and Ke Huy Quan. Missing from the photo are Andrea Riseborough (“To Leslie”) and Ana de Armas (“Blonde”), nominated for best actresses, Barry Keoghan (best supporting actor in “The Banshees Of Inisherin”), as well as Lady Gaga and Rihanna. In a speech, Academy President Janet Yang asked for a 45-second limit on winner thank-you notes. The Academy has done a lot of work to include all categories in the telecast, she said. The producer also addressed the “unprecedented incident” at the recent ceremony when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock onstage. Yang called the incident “completely unacceptable” and said in retrospect that “our organization’s response was inadequate.” In the future, the Academy wants to act “quickly, compassionately and decisively” in crises.
