William Hurt is dead – his son Will has announced the actor died a week before his 72nd birthday. A statement read: “It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, their beloved father and Oscar-winning actor, who died peacefully of natural causes on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday with his loved ones died. The family is asking for privacy at this time.”

The actor leaves behind four children. As early as May 2018, it became public that Hurt had prostate cancer. According to the industry magazine “Deadline”, the disease in the final stage had already affected the bones.

William Hurt: Review of his career

Often a quiet intellectual in his roles, William Hurt has also made a name for himself in science fiction and Marvel films. He completed his acting training with Christopher Reeve and Robin Williams at the renowned Juilliard School in New York. In the mid-1980s he was nominated for an Oscar for best actor three times in a row – for “The Kiss of the Spider Woman” (1985), “God’s Forgotten Children” (1986) and “News Fever” (1987). He won an Academy Award for his performance as Luis Molina in The Spider Woman’s Kiss. Hurt also appeared in off-Brodway productions, earning his first Tony Award nomination in 1985 for his work in Hurlyburly.

He was most recently seen in films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thaddeus Ross. He also appeared in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. According to IMDb, three films in which he should be involved are currently in the planning stage. Most recently, he was the voice of Stephen Holstrom on the series Pantheon.
