Tennis star Naomi Osaka has reached the quarterfinals of the Miami WTA tournament. The Japanese four-time grand slam winner defeated American Alison Riske in straight sets 6-3 6-4 and made a relaxed impression.
Both players had many break opportunities in the game in Florida. Osaka managed to use three, one in the first set and two in the second set. Riske only managed to win her opponent’s save once in the second set.
Osaka showed gratitude after making the last eight in Miami. “Last year I also made it to the quarter-finals here and after my win in Australia I wasn’t really happy about that. I expected to win. Now I’m in the same position again and this is one of the best moments of my life, now I’m really grateful.”
Opponent Collins
The next opponent of the 24-year-old Japanese is Danielle Collins. The 28-year-old American, this year’s finalist at the Australian Open, defeated Ons Jabeur from Tunisia 6-2 6-4.
Demi Schuurs was eliminated in the second round of the WTA tournament in Miami. The 28-year-old tennis star and her American doubles partner Desirae Krawczyk lost to the Belgian Kirsten Flipkens and the Indian Sania Mirza in two sets: 6-2 6-4.
