In the Kop van Drenthe, roughly from Fochteloërveen to De Onlanden, the Noorderzijlvest Water Board, the Province of Drenthe, the Groningen Water Company, the Municipality of Tynaarlo, the Municipality of Noordenveld and agricultural and nature organizations want to see how they can retain more water in that area if necessary.
The organizations are setting up a plan to ensure that sufficient water is available during dry periods, that flooding and possible water damage caused by rainfall is limited as much as possible and that the water quality in the area is in order. In addition, they are working on the climate resilience of the area. The organizations expect to present the first results in the autumn.
Last week, WMD Water announced that it was also conducting a study into water management in Drenthe. The research of the other organizations focuses mainly on the Kop van Drenthe and is not only about conserving water. They also map out the agricultural system and look at the system of landscape values and ecology.
