Orange polar bears on King’s Day in Wildlands

In the Wildlands animal park in Emmen, the polar bears have adapted perfectly to King’s Day. The animals turn orange today.

The habitat of the polar bears often contains bio-soil. The normally white bears love to roll through those scraps, sometimes making them look brown and dingy. Especially on King’s Day, the animal caretakers placed orange wood chips in the enclosure, in the hope that the color would give off a little and they succeeded; the bears got an orange glow.

The wood chips are made of biological material and are not dangerous for the polar bears. As soon as the animals dive into the water, they rinse clean again.
