The World Cup Football has not started fantastically for the Dutch national team, says TV expert Tina Nijkamp. Almost 4.3 million people watched the game against Senegal yesterday.
The Dutch national team has won its opening game at the World Cup in Qatar. It was 2-0 against Senegal yesterday. The match started at 5 p.m. and attracted almost 4.3 million viewers (76 percent market share). A mega score. But it is still a bit disappointing, says viewing expert and former SBS boss Tina Nijkamp.
Cautious start
Tina speaks of a cautious start. “Oh dear. Viewing figures, the World Cup does not start fantastic for the Orange. Nearly 4.3 million viewers is much less than before| matches in a major tournament. For example, the opening match of the Dutch national team against Spain at the World Cup in 2014 scored almost 7.3 million viewers.”
“Of course the earlier time plays a role, but in 2014 the Orange also sometimes played around 6 p.m. We have to go back to 2010, when many games were played very early in the afternoon to see similar scoring: back then only one game scored under 5 million. At 1.20 pm, the Orange scored 4.2 million viewers with the opening game.”
VI beats NOS
In the evening at 10 p.m., immediately after the United States – Wales primetime match (1.4 million viewers and 26 percent), viewers could choose between the afterthought on NPO 1 or De Oranjewinter on SBS 6. 969 thousand (21 percent) and 907 thousand (20 percent) people to.
Tina speaks of a ‘more than fantastic’ start for the men of VI. “It already scores almost as high as NPO 1 at that time. How long will it take before the VI men have more viewers than the World Cup review on NPO 1?
Meilandjes on two
SBS 6 also offered the most watched alternative to the World Cup in prime time, namely Chateau Meiland. 1.1 million people (20 percent) watched it. RTL 4 got stuck with Expedition Robinson at 823 thousand viewers (15 percent).
Between Chateau Meiland and De Oranjewinter, Shownieuws, which was brought forward due to the World Cup, scored more viewers than usual, namely 672 thousand (12 percent). RTL Boulevard had 587 thousand viewers (9 percent), partly compared to Orange. It hardly ever happens that Shownieuws attracts more viewers than Boulevard.
