Orange humiliates Belgium in Brussels and wins ‘Derby der Lage Landen’ again after 25 years | NOW

The Dutch team started the Nations League on Friday with a nice victory over Belgium. Orange won in the King Baudouin Stadium with no less than 1-4 and thus booked the first victory in 25 years in the ‘Derby der Lage Landen’.

After eight games without a win against Belgium, the Orange made an impression in Brussels. Before the break, the team of national coach Louis van Gaal – with Jasper Cillessen, Frenkie de Jong and Steven Bergwijn as stars – was already better, but it was a long wait for a goal. Due to the resounding victory over the number two in the FIFA ranking, the Orange squad leads the pack with three points in group 4 of Division A of the Nations League. Poland, which won 2-1 against Wales on Wednesday, is second.

Lukaku is injured at Belgium

In the 128th edition of the ‘Derby der Lage Landen’, Van Gaal chose Cillessen, Jurriën Timber, Nathan Aké, Davy Klaassen, Steven Berghuis and Bergwijn, among others, in the base. All the big stars start with the experienced Belgians, except for the injured keeper Thibaut Courtois. At 26, Timothy Castagne was the youngest player in the extremely experienced team of national coach Roberto Martínez.

Castagne was also the first player to get a chance in the King Baudouin Stadium in the thirteenth minute. He got the ball somewhat fortunately at his feet and hit the post with a shot in the short corner. Three minutes later, the Orange had a bigger chance. Memphis passes Kluivert

Shortly after the break, Memphis still had the chance to score 0-2 and it was a hit. Not that he was allowed to score a penalty, but Berghuis sent the attacker in the 51st minute with a nice pass towards the Belgian goal. Memphis kept cool and finished convincingly.

A few minutes later, Belgium had a chance to make things even more exciting via Leandro Trossard. Cillessen made the save, after which the Orange came into the game even better. It led to the 0-3 of Dumfries in the 61st minute. The Belgians couldn’t get the ball away after a shot by Bergwijn, allowing Blind to pass low. Dumfries tapped in at the far post.

Four minutes later it became even more beautiful for the Orange and more painful for the Belgians. A long pass from Virgil van Dijk came through Blind’s head at Memphis, who scored the 0-4. It was the 41st international goal of the 28-year-old striker, which is past Patrick Kluivert (40). Only Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (42) and Robin van Persie (50) scored more often.

In the last part of the match, Belgium did everything it could to make the score a little more bearable. A goal by Castagne was disallowed for offside and an attempt by Dries Mertens ended up on the post. In extra time, it was still hit for the Belgians via Batshuayi and so it ended in 1-4, the biggest victory of the Orange against the Belgians since 1976.
