Opponents MAA skeptical about airport conditions | 1Limburg

Opponents of Maastricht Aachen Airport have little confidence that the airport can meet the requirements of the Provincial Council to keep the airport open.

“I am absolutely convinced that they will not make it,” said spokesman Coen Eggen on behalf of the activists.

Nitrogen
He thinks that the nature permit in particular throws a spanner in the works. “The nitrogen space is simply not there. To achieve that, you would have to buy out between 250 and 300 farmers in South Limburg,” Eggen says on L1 Radio.

Partner
He also doubts whether the province can find a cooperation partner to manage the airport: “How many times have attempts been made to find an operator? There is none and there will not be one. Nor is a co-operator. , which is primarily a real estate company that wants to set up offices and businesses.”

To trust
The Provincial Council decided on Friday that the airport will continue to exist, but subject to conditions. At the end of this year it should become clear to what extent the airport succeeds in this. Responsible Commissioner Stefan Satijn is confident that Maastricht Aachen Airport will be able to meet the requirements.
