Opinion | Left and right

A few days after the election results, I had dinner with friends. We sat at the table with a hangover, not from the alcohol, but from the rash. We agreed not to talk about politics.

Someone had read a good book, another just brought a cat into the house, and I was wondering if I could put up the Christmas tree yet. A friend told me that she had failed her driving test because she had forgotten which was left or right due to the tension and had taken a wrong turn in panic. There was a deep silence in the room, until someone asked: “Hey, what did you actually vote for?”
