Opinion | Cellophane – NRC

The funeral card asks the deceased to bring a beautiful flower to the funeral service. In a flower shop I tell what I’m coming for. Red roses are in high demand, I hear. Looking around, I decide to opt for a white rose that I have accompanied by a branch with white ranunculus-like flowers. When asked, the saleswoman wraps the flowers in brown wrapping paper. I ask if it is possible to use cellophane to which she says: we don’t use that, because they can’t unpack it.
